HOMES FOR INEBRIATES.
The Government lately purchased the old Orakanui College at Waitati, near Dunedin, for an Inebriates' Home, and for the last three months a large staff of men has been employed altering and improving the building, which was unoccupied for a number of years. The building has a splendid situation, with an estate of over 900 a<:res, and is admirably suited for the purpose. It is hoped everything will be ready for opening the institution early next month. Dr Truby King, of Seacliff Asylum, has been appointed superintendent, Mr Chapman manager, and Mis 3 Thompson, late of the Botorua Sanatorium, will act as matron of the women's home, which has grounds of its own, and is siiuated about 2-50 yards from the College. Altogether there is accommodation in the main building for 38 males, inclusive of the staff, and the women's home will accommodate 15, inclusive of the staff. A fishing station has been started at Purakinui, close Jpy, and it is expected this will serve to supply sufficient fish for the two homos and tho Seacliff Asylum.
