It is intended to apply the eight hours principle to the running staff of the railways and tramways after July next year. Old Age Pensions. Melbourne, This Day. The maximum old age pensions has been fixed at eight shillings per week. The Federal Tariff. The Committee appointed by the Federal Labor Party to consider the tariff with a view of amendment, have reported to their party. After discussion the amendments were agreed upon effecting the reduction of £1,168,000. The reductions proposed include the following items :--Mi!k from three halfper pound to one penny, galvanised iron, kerosene, undressed timber and tea, free, ifivery member has agreed to fight strongly for the above reductions. The New Governor. Sir Henry Havelock, the new Governor of Tasmania, left for Hobart aboard the falune.
