Scarlatina. Gisborne, November.
In consequence of the statement that a case of scarlatina had developed among the pissengors who landed from Sydney at Auckland, the passengers and crew of the Waikare were examined on arrival here, bat no trace of disease was found.
The Licensing Bill. New Plymouth, November 5
The Prohibition Loagua passed resolutions to-night strongly objecting to portions of the Licensing Act Amendment Bill, especially the words in Clause 6 "until after taking the next option poll," also to the whole of clauses 10 and 13. A copy of the resolutions is to bo sent to the Premier and the members for the districts. The Supreme Court. A full bench of the Supremo Court gave judgement in the Fitzgerald v. Kelburn Tramway Co. case, holding that plaintiff was entitled to full compensation for any injury by construction and working of the line, less any increased value from increased convenience of access.
This decision give 3 a largo scope to claims for compensation under the Public Works Act than under English law. In the Duff v. Kyle case the Supreme Court held that plaintiff wa3 not entitled to notice of determination of contract, and the appeal from the S.M's decision was dismissed. A Peculiar Accident. Auckland, This Day.
Last Wednesday evening a young man named Farley was playing with two others with a brass pipe pea shooter. Ho accidentally ran against a pillar, and the pipo was driven in tho back of his mouth, penetrated the tonsil and severed an artery. Farley was removed to the hospital, and yesterday he died suddonly.
General Hector MacDonald. Aucklakd This D.ty. General MacDonald arrived at Onehunga this morning and wont straight on to Botorua. He arrives at Auckland on Friday.
Bating on Unimproved Values. . Wellington, Nov. 6. The poll of ratepayers at Petone on proposal to introduce the Rating on Unimproved Values Act resulted in 10} voting for and 134 against the proposal. It was, therefore, rejected.
Accidentally Drowned. The eighteen month i old child of Thomas Pierson was accidentally drowned on the Petone beach to-day. Divorce Suit.
In the Supreme Court to-day an application was grantod for a new trial ef matrimonial suit botween Annie Woodman (petitioner), and Thomas Woodman (respondent). In this case there had been a petition by the wife for judicial separation on tho grounds of cruelty, and a cross-petition by the huaband for divorce on the ground of adultery. The husband was granted a decree nisi.
