Christchusch, Nov. 5,

John Grigg, the well known owner at Longbeach, one of the largest farms in the world, died to-day. He was father of the frozen meat industry. General Hector M‘Donald. ■Wanganui, November 5.

M‘Donald was taken up the river about 20 miles this morning. The day was exceptionally fine and the visitor was delighted with the scenery. Ho regretted his inability to go overland to Rotorua. Accident to the Tarawera. Wellington, Nov. 5.

While the Tarawera was off Kaikoura yesterday on her way to Wellington from Lyttelton the spindle of the circulating pump broke and the vessel was delayed two or three hours until a new rod could bo fitted.

Federated Seamen’s Dispute. The dispute filed by the Wellington section of the New Zealand’branch of the Australian Federated Seamen’s Union will come before the Conciliation Board next week. The principal points of the Union’s demands are that the wages per month for a.b’s, lamp trimmers, £7 ; firemen and greasers, £9 ; a.b’s, trimmers, boatswains, workng six hour watches, £lO ; first class and second class ordinary seamen £5 and £4 respectively. There are also demands for overtime and holidays.

The Dredgemen’s Dispute. Dunedin, Nov. 5. Further evidence was taken to-day in the dispute between dredgemen and minting companies. The Conciliation Board ntimatod that it would make known its award in a few days.
