BIBLE BEADING IN SCHOOLS.

(PBB PBESS ASSOCIATION.)

Dunedin, Nov. 5,

The Presbyterian Assembly dealt with a report of a committee on Bible reading in schools, and resolved, after a brief debate, to authorise the committee to collect funds to support one or more agents to advocate Bible reading and secure such amendment of the Education Act as will effect the daily reading of the Bible in the public schools under pro-, vision of a time table and conscience clause. It was further resolved “that the Assembly are of opinion that it is of the utmost importance that the Bible should be introduced into our public schools, but as at present the different churches are not agreed as to the exact form in which this should bo done. It was resolved that the following committee the Be vs J. Gibb, J, Paterson, W. Hewitson and Dr. Erwin be appointed to confer with the bodies of other churches and endeavour to come to an understanding and formulate a platform, and if they should succeed in so doing to take what steps they may deem best to bring it prominently before the people.
