£2,000 Gratuity to Lady M'Kenzie Wellington, This Day.
The Government propose to place a sum of £2,000 on the Supplementary Estimates as a gratuity to Lady M'Kenzie. Members of the House are being sounded as to how the proposal will be received. It is said that the members of the Opposition do not view it with favour. They say that to give a gratuity to the widow of a Premier is going far enough and they are opposed to establishing a precedent by voting a large amount to the relic of a Cabinet Minister.
