The State Coal Mimes. Wellington, This Day. In Committee on the State Coal Mint s Bill, Mr Herrii s moved a new clause to brine State Goal Mine employees under the Conciliation an£ Arbitration Act.
This was opposed by Mr Seddon, who condemned the amendment made by the House in the Conciliation and Arbi ration Amendment Bill, allowing either disputant to go direct to the Arbitration Court. He said that it would sap the general structure of the Act, and he intended to give the country an opportunity of considering the matter before such an important departure was made. Mr Herries motion was lost by 29 to 23, On the motion of Mr Seddon a new clause was added to provide that any award of the Arbitration Court relating to coal mines in the industrial district, in which any State coal mine is situated, shall be subject to such local variations as the Court thinks justified to apply to the State mine.
The Bill was reported, and after a brief debate, put through its final stages. Maori Lands Administration.
The debate on the motion for the committal of the Maori Lands Administration Act Amendment Bill, was adjourned.
