The men treated like dogs.

Received this day at 9 26 a m. Melbourne, Oct 31. Major McKnight, one of the officers of the Fifth Contingent, has submitted a report to the Government in reference to Beatson's episode.
Speaking at a social given in honor of the return, McKnight sau that the Fifth were as good as any other Victorian Contingent, but the officers and men were treated like dogs. The losses result in gross carelessness. He never heard any .British officers use such strong language as Beatson and the officer next in command.
