GOLD DREDGING.

The Ruby Creek dredge Was formally taken oVer from the contractors yesterday by Mr Warded, Chairman of directors, Mr Cormiek has been appointed dredge* master. Dredging was commenced day, the machinery running well. No wash up can hardly be expected before Saturday I6th, the dredge having a lot of dead work to do.

Commissioners Flat.—Messrs Bignell and Fitzgerald are making good progress with the construction of pontoons, and they should be ready for floating, in the course of a few weeks.

The Greenstone Junction dredge is working into J. White’s land this week so the return is somewhat more matical than usual. This course was neecessary in order to lest the ground over which the Company holds an option or purchase.

So far though the weather has been most impropiilou?, the Greenstone Throe Mile has managed to keep going, and though hampered somewhat with silt a return may bo expected on Saturday. Mr Wylie, representative for Mr Payne Consulting Engineer, informs us that the Great Lead Coy’s pontoons were successfully launched and shifted down to the site for the erection of machinery on Monday last. Eighty tons of machinery has arrived for the Woodstock Gold Dredging Coy, The erection of machinery will be commenced at once.

The Ahaura dredge got a fair Start yesterday, but owing to the paddock being pretty well full of silt and debris it will take some time to get a good face on again. The dredge is now in capital trim and should give a strong run foi? months to come.

Work on the Maori Queen dredge is being pushed on and a fortnight should see the machine at work again, A number of grabs are being attached to the ladder, which it is hoped will aid in bringing down the hard-packed wash.
