GREYMOUTH JOCKEY CLUB.
A meeting of the committee of the Greymoutli Jockey Club was held at the Albion Hotel last evening. PresentMessrs J. Petrie (chair), Yarrall, Walton, Claughesey and Smith. John Carter was granted a jockeys and »nd trainers' license.
A letter was read from the Premier intimating that he could not see his way to bring jockeys and trainers under the Workmen's Compensation Act. A long discussion easued, and it was generally held that under the existing law the only way would be for the Conference next Juno to insist upon all jockeys being covered by an insurance policy.
Tho programmes of the Takaka and Motueka Jockoy Clubs were passed.
An application from the. Nelson Jockey Club to be allowed to insert two hack races in Iheir trotting programme was refused, the Chairman pointing out that this was an exactly similar application to that refused last year upon the advice of Sir George Clifford. It was resolved to appoint Mr Walton to take the part of Committeeman at the Committee Conference to be held on the sth at Christchurch, and that ihe Club approve the centralising of all the J pokeys' and trainers' licenses. The meeting is consequent upon tho following resolutions passed at last conference—That a Committee be appointed to consist of one member from each Metropolitan District, such member to be eleoted by the respective Metropolitan Clubs. The Committee to meet in November next at Christchurch and to consider the best means of dealing locally with a large and still steadily increasing Trainers' and Jockeys' Funds, and report to the next Conference. The Chairman of the Conference to be a member of the Committee ex-offioio.
