SPECIAL STAR TELEGRAMS.

(OOR OWN CORRESPONDENT).

Weleington, This Day. Hector Macdonald will be the guest of the Governor during his stay in Wellington, He will probably make a trip up the Wanganui river. The tiial of the English, American, and New Zealand manufactured locomotives, with the object of ascertaining the respective coal consumption will bo shortly made between Oamaru and Palmerston South.

After the beginning of November the Manawatu Railway Company will run a train on Sundays to Paikaraka. It is reported in the lobbies that owing to tho lateness of the session the Council will not go on with the Factories Bill. A deputation of Wellington chemists interviewed Sir Joseph in reference to the Medical Practictioner’s Bill, pointing out that some of its clauses would interfere with the rights of chemists in regard to proscriptions.-

Tbe Minister replied that tho Bill exempted chemists referred to, but there was no intention of proceeding with the measure this session. It had been introduced at the request of tho Medical Association, but would be circulated during recess, so that any class affected by it would have an opportunity of studying the Bill. Considerable opposition is shown by tho railway hands to tho proposed Amended Classification Bill, and the prospects of its passage is problematical. The measure it is contended beneSts only the Traffic Department.
