Signor Ernesto BenedoUi has invented a " protector " against bullets, the experiments with which have been so satisfactory that the Minister of War will acquire the invention, and introduce it at onco into the army as a means of defence in case of war. The experiment was tried of shooting a revolver at the " profceotor " at a distance of six faet, and a rille, model of 1901, supposed to have the greatest penetrating power of any in Europe, as it will pierce steel plates of ueven and even ten millimetres thickness, at 162 feet to 325 feet, and from 650 to 975 feot distance, tha result being that the bullets were repelled in the most marvellous way, not making the least impression on the target. Bottles and glasses of watar were then balanced on the top, but the wates did not move, percoptibly at least, when the bullet struck, proving conclusively that there is no kicking or vibrationSignor Bendetti is most jubilant over the success of his invention and not only predicts groat things for it in war-time, but also invites discussion, particularly j criticism, which latter he declares himself m >re than ready to controvert,
