(pee press association.)
Dunedin, This Day,
Shortly before six this morning, the Mokoia arrived off the Heads with the Monowai in tow.
The following message from Engineer Paton was handed aboard the tug: "At 1 1.30 a.m. Thursday the 17tb, we struck something with the propeller and after that felt a peculiar vibrating. At 6.30 the engine got away at bard speed. On examination we found about half tho boss gone, and two blades with its aft running round without boss." Capt Sprinks told a very simple narrative. "We left Bluff at five o'clock on Monday afternoon, with instructions to spend at ifast three days looking for tho Monowai. We steered along about 70 or 80 miles to north of our usual course, and sighted her at 8 25 p.m. on Tuesday about 16 miles north. When we got near we received a message from Captain Chatfield saying ho had been drifting since Thursday morning atlO-lf>. We tookher in tow. When wo started from the coast had thick fog, which lasted till half an hour after noon on Tuesday. After catching hold we had fine clear weather till Wednesday forenoon when we experienced a heavy swell which gave us a little anxiety as to how the wire hawser would stand but it was all right. We passed Solanders at 10 :10 yesterday morning and thonce had a smooth sea.
