With the slight modification of having only one panel instead of two the Queen Victoria Memorial Statue Committee accepted tho design of Mr Hampton, England. The statue will have a height of Bft Gin on a pedestial 9ft 6in. The statue will be of marble with an Aberdeen granite pedistal. The figures and panel will be of bronze, the subject of the panel being the arrival of the first settlers in Otago. Temperance Advocacy. Napieb, Oct 24. At a meeting of temperance people held this evening, a resolution was carried in the form of a petition to the louse of Bepresentatives praying that certain alterations be not made in the licensing law, and the chairman was instructed to sign the petition and forward it to Parliament.
