The Amalgamated Miners’ Association desired the management of Broken Hill Proprietary to receive a deputation to discuss an amendment in regard to prices. The Company declined, but were willing to hear grievances from employee 3, but not to discuss the matter with an outside body.

A great Freetrade demonstration was addressed by Mr Reid in a brilliant speech at the Town Hall last night. The meeting entered a vigorous protest against the tariff. Rival Mail Routes.

The Federal Government have received a letter from Mr Seddon enquiring whether in the event of New Zealand failing to arrange with Spreckles, the Commonwealth will be willing to despatch a mail by the Suez Canal, provided a contribution is made for services rendered.

It is understood that the Commonwealth is agreeable to meet New Zealand’s wishes.
