A sensational sequel to a martiag. celebrated at Auckland a few weeks ago occurred yesterday. A young man, Al fted Adrian Pike, was charged on n warrant with wife desertion issued by his wife, and he was ordered to pay 15s a week towards her support the lund for security totalling £3O; in default tix months. Pike declared that be was unable to find security and was removed to the cells. Shortly afterwards he sho himself with a revolver which he somehow managed to secret, inflicting a dangerous wound in his head.

According to the story told by hia wife, they were married in Auckland on September 16th, and left for Sydney in the Zealandia. Soon after the arrival the husband began to illtreat her, and then left her without funds. Being destitute, and believing that ho intended to leave for Suuth Africa, she took out a warrant. Amongst Pike’s effects are a number ol disch rrges from American coastal vessels.
