Returned Troopers Celebration Wellington, Oct. 21.

Some sixty members of the First Contingent from all parts of the colony meet here ro-night to celebrate the anniversary of their departure for South Africa by the Waiwera on November 12th, 1899. In the unavoidable absence of Co'. Eobin and Davis the chair will bo taken by Captain Bartlett, of Hawera, An association is to bo formed and the anniversary celebraten at each centre in turn. Dunedin will probably have the honor next year. Dry thawing of Meat.

A further test of A. H. Chapman’s prooesi of dry thawing of meat was given at the Gear Company’s premises on Saturday in the paesenoo of the Minister of Agriculture, the secretary of the Department, and others.
