THE ARIADNE CASE.

Sydney, Oct. 18. Kerry and Freko were ramandod to Christchurch in the custody of Detective McGrath and Constable McLeod, who produced the original warrants and identified accused when charged tc-day with casting awav. in company with others, the yacht Ariadne.
Acoussd declared themselves innocent of the charge. Detective Goulder deposed that when ho arrested the accused he took possession of Freko’s portmanteau. Amongst the contents was a book containing what purported to be a conversation between Freke and Captain Mumford in reference to the alleged blackmail of T. C. Kerry, rtlating to the wreck of the Ariadne. Freko said, “Yes, that is true, and the whole of it is my own handwriting.” Ho afterwards. denied the wriiing. Amongst Kerry’s effects witness found some letters and a packet of napers marked “Mumford’s papers. Don’t open till you reach London.” Also a day book referring to the payment of :Cl3l to Capford in various sum?.
