In explanation of the cable from the other side re ocean mail; on inquiries I learn that the secretary of the local Postal Department asked whether the Federal Postal Department would consent to New Zealand being made a party to the P and O and Orient Mail contracts, paying its quota, as do the Commonwealth states on a population basis. Mr Gray to-day received a reply that the matter was under the consideration of the Federal Cabinet.
