OLD AGE PENSIONS.
[OUR PARLIAMENTARY REPORTER.]
Wellington, This Day. The Old Age Pensions Committee have just finished taking evidence. Daring the past three weeks they have had statements from Mr Haselden 8.M., Mr Mason (Registrar of Old Age Pensions), ■Mr Mahsfield (Deputy Registrar at Wellington), and Mr James Taylor (Deputy Registrar at Dunedin). It is understood that the evidence given shows there are some 13,000 pensioners in the Colony, and that imposition on the part claimants was rare. The Deputy Registrar being empowered to take part in the Court proceedings, it was urged by all the witnesses that much valuable information was given, and it is confidently anticipated that the Committee will be able to frame regulations which will be a great improvement on those now in force.
