GREY MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Monday, October 14th. (Before E. S. Hawkins Esq., S.M.) ASSAULT CASE. J. Windwind charged P. Stephenson with assault, claiming 4127 2s damages. Mr Hailnan for plaintiff, and Mr Wake for defendant. This dispute arose fhrotigh three men going to defendant’s house and refusing to leave. Defendant declared that the plaintiff was one of the three who annoyed him, while the latter denied being present. Next day tbe two met and proceeding to plaintiff’s house to prove by clothes that he was not one of the three who went to defendant’s house. On the way some heated words took place, and Stephenson struck Windwind inflicting a nasty wound. Dr Morice in his evidence stated that it required to be stitched up. The Magistrate was of the opinion that it was a case of mistaken identity, but this did not justify Stephcneon in making the assault, and he therefore awarded plaintiff £5 with costs amounting to £5 19s. POSSESSION OF TENEMENT. J. Beere v J. Morgan. Claim for 5/rent due, and possession of tenement. Mr Wake for plaintiff. E. Guinness gave evidence that he had served notice to quit on defendant. Judgment for plaintiff for amount claimed, and application for possession of dwelling granted.

Tuesday, October Isth. (Before Messrs Lord and Moßrearty J. P’s.)

A Collins was charged with breaking a window, the value of 6/*; also having no visible means of support. On the first charge accused was fined 6/- and costs. The second charge was adjourned for a fortnight.
