[PEE PEES 3 ASSOCIATION.] Sudden Deaths Ashburton, Oct 12. Dr Gardner of Eakaia, died suddenly last evening, it is supposed from heart disease. A girl named Bella Gordon died yesterday under circumstances rendering an inquest necessary which takes place this afternoon. Wanganui, Oct 13. W. P. Stuart, proprietor of the New Market hotel and a well known Highlander died last night as the outcome of injuries sustained by a recent trap accident. Burned to Death. Auckland, This Day. The infant of Sydney Soloman died as a result of burns on Friday. The matches from a candlestick caught fire through the candle burning down, and jumped on the to the child’s pillow burning the back of the head. Mistake or Fraud?
At the Magistrates Court Frank M. Clark, well-known in theatrical circles was charged with the thieft of £6 15s the property of the totalisator proprietors. Counsel for the prosecution asked leave to tender no evidence as they considered a mistake had been-made and that there was no criminal intent. He pointed out that the system of paying out on two horses had just been introduced, and it was easy to make a mistake, and present tickets at the wrong windows. Clark had offered to refund £6 15s over paid. The Magistrate adjourned the case for a fortnight to give the police an opportunitp of deciding whether they would proceed with the charge or not. Committed for Trial. Wellington, This Day. Leonard Pocock was committed for trial on the charge of having caused a telegram to be sent to Mrs. Francis, of Christchurch, purporting to be signed by Kobert Francis (her son), as a result of which she remitted £3, which accused is alleged to have obtained.
