THE DEFENCE ESTIMATES.
Mr Seddon’s Fear and Trembling.
[our parliamentary reporter ]
Wellington, This Day
The Defence Minister was appealed to last night by Mr McGuire in favour of a large supply of free ammunition for volunteers and rifle clubs.
Seddon replied that he and his colleagues had made np their minds some time ago to grant an increased amount of ammunition to the volunteers, but he was still hesitating about it, because of the threatened attempt to reduce the vote for defence. Is was with fear and trembling that ho now announced to the House that, despite the proposal for reduction, he intended to adhere to his determination to give aa increase of ammunition to volunteers and rifle clubs. They oaght to have rifle ranges all over the country, but that could not be done without increased expenditure which, however, would not have to be repeated once the ranges had been acquired.
