Ashburton, October 10.
The Farmers’ Conference were not satisfied with the Government’s reply to
a query re Workers’ Compensation Act, and decided to forward a protest. The Millers’ Trust was strongly criticised, and an enquiry was recommended. Government is also to be asked to exclude the agricultural industry from the Arbitration Act.
A protest was passed against increasing the honorarium to members of Parliament.
The Conference concluded by electing officers, and fixing headquarters at Christchurch.
The Conference recorded an appreciation of the concession granted by the Government, and expressed the hope that further reasonable requests would be favorably considered.
