DEATH OF THE AMEER OF AFGHANISTAN.

[per PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.]

Kabul, October 8. Obitury.—The Ameer of Afghanis tan.

The Ameer suffered from gout and was taken ill on September 28. He was warned that his illness was dangerous. On October 2nd the Sirdar, Hobidullah* the eldest son, in opening the Durbar, asked for the prayers of the faithful for the recovery of his father.

Hobidullah informed Great Britain’s native agent that the Ameer died at 3 o’clock on the morning of the third. London, October 8.

The Times Simla correspondent states that Hobidullah will presumablyjsucceed quietly, as for sometime he has been invested with large administrative powers bv his father.

The newspapers are agreed as to the gravity and inopportuneness of the Ameer’s death and emphasise that it will bind the compact of 1873, whereby Rus ha recognised Afghanistan as outside the sphere of Russian influence, also Russia frequently admitting that it is inside the sphere of British supremacy.
