THE WEST COAST SOUNDS.
Developing the Tourist Traffic.

Wellington, This Day. The Tourist Department has decided to make arrangements for the development of the tourist traffic to the southwest fords. The fortnightly steamers now calling at South Port will bo subsidised to extend their visits to the head of Edwardson’s Sound.
It is proposed to utilise the track fyom Manapouri West Arm to Yancouver and Hall Sound, and to run a steamer on the chain of lakes between Fanny Bay and Edwardspn’s Sound,
Mr. Henry, the curator of the Native Bird Department at Resolution Island, ■will in all probability have a launch placed at his disposal. Tourist huts and an accommodation house will be erected by the Government. It is suggested that Hall Sound and Vancouver shall be made the base of operations. Mr. Donne, head of the Tourist Department, has availed himself of the services and local knowledge of Mr. B. O. Garrick in napping out his scheme. The proposals will be put in practical shape about Christmas time.
