WESTLAND DREDGING COMPANY.
(West Coast Times )
Mr James Park Solicitor, who is attorney for the Westland Dredging and Sluicing Company, returned from the .Waiho last Saturday afternoon where he _ had been on a visit of inspection of the different works now being carried out by the Company preliminary to commencing mining operations on a large scale. ... The extension of the race to the upper part of the claim has been completed, and is an excellent piece of work. The race had been out through deep alluvial of * depth of fourteen feet. No great difficulty had'been experienced, and tba levels had come out exactly a* required.
■The large boulders that were expected were not to be found. From this extension of the race to the sluice face, a pips line is taken and on this part of the work the men were busy laying the pipes. The nozzle was in position and some men were clearing the face of the terrace for the paddock site. The manager hopes to commence sluicing next week. Some 1 dishes were washed with very satisfactory results. It is confidently expected that there are six or seven years w oik in sight working double shifts, on this park of the ground alone. Mr Park also inspected the proposed pipe line for the hydraulic elevator and fixed on the one nearest at the top. of the Company’s claim on the fiat. Tali Una has good grades and will be a comparatively inexpensive line to construct. ,It will consist of about two thousand test of 18 inch, five hundred feet of 18 inch pipes and about three hundred feet of 16 inch pipes. Tenders have been called for the supply of iron for the pipes and for tha usual elevating plant. A sawmill site was also pegged out where the Company will ereot their own mill to cut the timber for the necessary works in progress.
A splendid boring plant was shipped from Ballarat and has arrived at, Wellington by the Mokoia and is expected any day. This is to be sent to the mouth, of the Waiho where, it will be employed upon the Company’s dredging areas for the next twelve months. Altogether this company means to do its work thoroughly.'
