GOLD DREDGING.

The Bod Jacks dredge will have a trial run on Saturday, and will start next week, but it will be well on to end of the month ere the machine gets into thorough, working order. The Maori Gully pontoon was completed to-day and the work of erecting machinery commences to-morrow. The dredge should bo working in six weeks time.

The Shellback Company commence the excavation of their dam shortly. They arc having some trouble with Chinamen who are now working on their ground and getting good gold. An injunction, was taken out to-day against them. At the meeting of Ahaura shareholders in the Grey Consolidated, it was agreed to ask the Dunedin directors to send over an expert to measure up what amount of ground has been dredged and amount of gold obtained. The opinion hero is that the dredge should be doing a great deal more work, and that such returns should ere now have been forthcoming. Ford’s Creek is dredging in 32 feet of wash, which is beyond the capacity of ladder for efficient work. Nevertheless

she is doing fairly well. She is heading for tho creek, the wash slowly shallowing. The local director anticipates a steady increase in yield of gold. It is hoped to have a trial run with the Hokiiika river dredge to-morrow. Yesterday tho headlines were got out and tho winches worked. '

The Totara Flat dredge is nearing completion, and should bo at work in about three weeks time.

The Old Diggings dredge had the new tumbler placed in position and resumed work on Monday afternoon,
