The Spread of Consumption.
Sydney, September 30. The Mayor presided at a largo meeting in the Town Hall. An influential committee, chiefly of doctors, was appointed to deputationise the Government to erect a special hospital for the treatment of consumption and to take other steps to prevent the spread of the disease. A Severe Snowstorm. An extensive snowfall was experienced in the highlands. A bitterly cold southwesterly with coastal storms and rough seas prevailed. Executed for Murder. Brisbane, Sept 30. John Eeuben was executed for the murder of Fanny Hardwick at Eockhampton in June last. Death was instantaneous. State Revenue. Sydney, Oof, 1. The State revenue for the quarter decreased by £BO,OOO as compared with the previous corresponding quarter. It is pointed out that if the Federal expenditure was not deducted it would have shown an increase of £221,000. Melbourne, Oct. 1. The revenue for the quarter increased by £107,000 as compared with the same quarter of last year. Newcastle Coal Export. Sydney, Oct. 1. The coal exported from Newcastle for the nine months ended September 30th, was 2,373,000 tons, an increase of 177,000 tons as compared with corresponding period of last year. New Zealand took nearly 3000 tons more. Butter Export. Sydney, Oct. 1. The Government are promoting the export of butter competition by offering substantial prizes.
