Information has been received that three members of the Fifth Victorian contingent in South Africa were sentenced to be shot forjinciting mutiny. Lord Kitchener commuted the chief offenders to be sentenced to ton years penal servitude and two others a years imprisonment. Previously two other members of the contingent were sentenced to two years imprisonment for surrendering. Received this day at 8 46 a. m. London, Sept 80. A rebel named Wolfaardt tried at Graafreint blamed Tewater, an ex-chief minister, and Oliver Schreiner for inciting the rebellion.
