BLACKBALL NOTES.
(our own correspondent.)
The numerous friends of Mr and Mr . Lietoh (senior) will be pleased to hear that they are returning from their trip to the old country, having left by the Tongariro on the 14th ult„ and should be expected about the end of this month.
Last Saturday week the Blackball Dramatic Society journeyed to Brunnerton to give an entertainment in aid of the School piano fund, and had a very successful and enjoyable trip. A treat that was fully appreciated by the Blackball residents was supplied by the local band, who taking the advantage of a fine Sabbath played several selections last Sunday afternoon. It is a pity we do not get bettor weather on a Sunday as it is the only day the members of the band get together, and we are sure their kindly efforts were fully appreciated by the residents. V One of those pleasing ceremonies which go to relievo the monotony of school life took place on Saturday evening, when the residents of Moonlight invited Miss McDonald (assistant teacher at Blackball) to attend a social gathering. During the evening Miss Dorothy Turner, on behalf of the children and parents, presented Miss McDonald with a very handsome gold brooch, while Miss M. Magee read the following testimonial Miss McDonald, Moonlight; “On your departure from this district, after a continuous service of five years as teacher of the above school, we the undersigned parents and residents take this opportunity, on your departure froin the district, to iestify to your untiring zeal, patience and industry while in charge, and express to you our pleasure and entire satisfaction at the manner and the result of your teaching, which have been to us and the ohiliren so entirely gratifying. We are, yours sincerely, Rio>a:d Daveren, John Turner, Hugh Magill.
