[mt PEEKS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.] London, September 23. A train was accidentally derailed at Standerton. Six Dragoon Guards were killed and 30 injured. The following honors, dated November 29ih, 1900, were conferred on New Zsalanders: —
Distinguished conduct medal —G. Holmes.
- Bearer of the Royal Red Cross—Sister Williamson.
Many Australians received similar honors.
Major Saimcs of tho New South Wales Medical Corps, received tho Companion of tho Bath.
Those permanently banished are Botha, late landdrost at Pretoria ; field cornets Botha, Hugo, Mcuwhondt and Duoleessis, Captains Oliver, Cun; 7, and Coosdrugcr ; Adjutant Yandcrlinde, Tho details of tho VJakfontein fight show that the British intended to capture 50 roving Boors, and tho guns opened firs at 200 yards. The Boers surrounded tho British, encircling them with a brisk rifle fire. The breech block of one gun with the belongings of both were destroyed, and the breech block of the second gun was burned before the British surrendered.
Colonel Kekewich northwest of Eustenburg captured 35 Boers. 60 horses, 30 rifles and 5 wagons full of clothing.
Lord Kitchener reports that Lieut Miers of the Somerset Light Infantry, attached to the Constabulary at Iliversdraal, went on the 25th to meet three Boors approaching under the white flag, who after a short conversation were seen to shoot Miers dead and gallop away.
The enemy in force under Botha, attacked Forts Italia and Prospect, on the Zululand border, on the 26th, the garrison gallantly repelling them and inflicting heavy loss.
A Router’s message states that the garrison lost one killed and nine wounded.
