SOCIAL AT NO TOWN.
(our own correspondent.)
A most successful social was held in the Good Templars Hall on Friday evening being got up by a committee of ladies in aid of the Ahaura Presbytery. The Hall was tastefully decorated with ferns and evergreens. Dancing was commenced at half-past eight and was kept up till the wee small hours of the morning. The music being supplied by Miss Gifford, accordeon, and Mr Anderson, piano, Mr Robertson made an efficient M.C. During the intervals songs were contributed by the following: —Mr Earl. “ Won’t you marry me Molly Darling.” Mr J. O’Brien, comic, “ I can’t change her.*’ Mr Anderson, “Killarney.” Miss K. Kelly and MrT. Mullins, duet, “Come where my Love lies Dreaming.” Mr J. O’Brien, “Just as the sun went down. Mr E. Low, “I’ll await my love,” Mr Archer “Why don’t yon marry the Girl.” At the conclusion Mr O’Reilly, in an appropriate speech, thanked the people on behalf of the Committee for rolling up in such large numbers from different parts of the district, and especially the ladies who helped to make the social such a success,
The presbytery will realise a nice little sum, the amount is not yet exactly made up as a lot of tickets out have not yet been collected, but a goodly sum will be raised which will materially assist the object.
