A Burglar Captured. Dunedin, September 18. The police captured a man named Lee alia « Wilson, the author of numerous daylight burglaries. It is supposed that he came here from Wellington and Christchurch, arriving on 29th August. He is a respectable looking person and had £2O and a set of skeleton keys in his possession. His lodgings were searched when broken jewellery of all kinds and other housebreaking impliments were found. His plan was to- smash and smelt the gold trinklets and then sell the gold, ,
Shipping Enquiry. Wellington, September 18. An enquiry was commenced to-day before Mr Haseldeen, S, M, the specially appoined Commissioner to enquire into certain delays that had occurred recently in regard to the medical inspection of vessels arriving from oversea ports. Evidence was taken concerning the time the medical officer had inspected the barque G. M. Tucker, but the enquiry into the delay of granting pratique to the Monowai, which caused considerable comment some weeks ago, was adjourned until to-morrow.
Respect to President M’Kinley. Napier, Sept 18.
At the meeting of the Napier Borough Council this evening, it was decided to adjourn as a mark of respeet to the late President M’Kinley, and a motion of condolence was passed and ordered to be sent to the American Consul. Fatal Accident. Fielding, This Day.
Michael Sullivan, a farmer, residing at Ruahine was killed on his way home in a trap. He was found by the roadside, and had apparently driven over a steep cutting.
