Larte and Sutherland, and the Federal Ministers and several ladies were slightly injured. The steamer caught fire, but it was extinguished. The Duke of Cornwall reviewed 4000 troops on the Plains of Abraham, and presented 103 South African war medals, and the Victorian Cross to Colonel Turner in recognition of his saving the guns at Belfast.
At the Duke of Cornwall’s request, as a mark of sympathy with Mrs. M’Kinley, all the spectacular events were omitted from Thursday’s Royal visit programme
