Boer Rifles. Adelaide, Sept. 18. In response to a request made some time ago the Adelaide Cadet Corps has received from Kitchener 200 mauser rifles captured from the Boers. Queensland Revenue. Brisbane, Sept. 18. Imports for the year ended December last were valued at 117,154,000, and exports at £9,080,000. Commissioners report that the railways for the year ended June shows a deficit on working including interest of £552,000. Big Gold Shipment. Perth, Sept. 18, The steamer Rome took gold and bullion valued at £521,000 to London. This is a record shipment for the State.
Disastrous Fire. Melbourne, September 18. The damage by Marshall’s fire is estimated at about £20,000, which is covered by insurance. 300 employees are rendered idle.
Japanese for Australia. Sydney, Sept. 18. The Japanese Consul has protested to Barton against the Immigration Restriction Bill on the grounds that Japanese belong to an Empire, whose standard of civilisation is so much higher than those the Bill proposes to include them. He asked that they either be exempted or placed on the same footing as Europeans.
