Seceived this day, at 8 64 a.m. New York, September 17. Most of the New York buildings and churches are draped. At most of the Sunday services “ Nearer my God ” was sung, many in the congregation weeping. Special prayers were said for the extirpation of anarchism.

The body of M'Kinley has been removed from the Buffalo City Hall en route to Washington. There display. The sailors and militia escorted the body to the railway staiion, and the hands pleyed “Nearer my God to Thee ” and Chopin’s march. Great crowds lined the route. Roosvelt and members of the Cabinet followed bareheaded. The car bearing the coffin was draped with wreaths, which were also suspended on the sides. Sheaves of wheat were crossed above McKinley’s breast, and a white dove with wings outstretched seemed to be rising from the head of the coffin. A soldier stood at the foot and a sailor at the head.

His wife, who travelled beside the bier for a part of the journey, was deeply affected by the universal sympathy. The train slowed down at various stations to enable the citizens and children to see the coffin.

Bells were tolled the entire route. Girls strewed flowers before the train at one station.
