Lost at Sea
Timaeu, September 13. Tbo barque Isle of Erin, 104 days from Liverpool, had a boisterous passage. On August 18tb a young A.B. named Newman was knocked overboard and lost, A buoy was thrown over and picked up by a boat. It is supposed that Newman could not swim. Wanganui Rifle Range. Wanganui, September 13. The Government have approved of the purchase [of the rifle range at Putiki, where the Eifle Association meetings will be held. The property ‘is a native reserve, the purchase of which will be facilitated by Government. The range is up to 900 yards and one of the best in the colony. Deviation at Railway Grossing. New Plymouth, Sept. 13. A public meeting was held last night at which the Mayor presided. It was relative to a deviation of the railway line to avoid crossing the streets. There was a concensus o'f opinion that a deviation was urgently required to prevent further accidents. A resolution was passed appointing the Mayor, Messrs Newton and King to wait on the Minister in conjunction with the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce to urge the neeessity for the deviation and that it be taken in hand without delay.
