At Japan’s instance, Great Britain persuaded Canada to disallow the British Columbian Bills imposing the educational teslrthat excludes Chinese and Japanese, and forbidding their employment on certain works. Butter Adulteration. London, Sept 13. Pearks Gunston and Tee, grocers, were fined £ls ss, including costs, at Wandsworth, for adding an undue percentage of moisture in churning Colonial butter with pure milk. The label explaining the blend was held to be misleading to those acquainted with the constituents of butter. Collieries Pooling. The South Wales collieries are arrangingfor the pooling system, similar to that in operation in Westralian mines. Methodist Church.
London, Sept. 13. Rev. W. J. Williams of New Zealand delivered a cheering address at the Methodist Council on spiritual vitality in the Methodist Churches of Australia. Other speakers were optimistic in regard to other fields, but pointed out that the increasing demands of social life were in serious dangers. British Education. Gorst, addressing the British Association declared that it would prove of inestimable advantage if Great Britain would adopt a scientific conception of National Education similar to that already in force in the Colonies, Europe and America. The Duke of Orleans Apologised. Received this day at 9 20 a. m. London, Sept 18. The Times Oophenhagen correspondent as been authorised to state that the Duke
of Orleans apologised and begged the late Queen Victoria’s pardon for encouraging the French artist who caricatured her. The Queen’s answer was conceived in the most generous spirit, forgiving Orleans in her name and the name of the family. Westralian Loan.
The West Australian loan of a million and a half at 3 per cent has been placed on the market, at a fixed price of 91. A Russian Loan.
Berlin houses are issuing 4 per cent, bonds guaranteed by Russia, on behalf ol three Russian railways.
