LANDS AND SURVEY REPORT.
[our paeuamentaey eeporteb.]
Wrlmnqtov, September 12.
Another meeting of the members of the House to consider the position of the land laws was held this morning. It was pointed out that it was absurd to purchase freeho d on one hand, and allow every possible facility for disposal of freehold on the other.
Tho report of the Lands and Survey Department shows that last year 412,042 acres were disposed of as freehold, or with right of purchase, to 1,214 persons, while only 97,138 acres were selected by 295 persons under lease in perpetuity.
The meeting decided to wait on the Premier and other members of the Cabinet to urge the desirability of altering tho land laws in' order to prevent further continuance of this state of things.
