London, September 12. Scobell is promoted to a Colonelcy in recognition of his success. There are indications that Commandant Botha has been receiving rifles, ammunition and recruits overl-ind from the neighborhood of Delagoa Bay.
As the result of a search at the instance of the Consul large quantities of ammunition and other contraband have been seized in the vicinity of Lorenzo Marques, and several arrests have been made.
Several of Schecpers' force declare that they mere'y had time to loosen the rails at Nelspoort in July and the train bumped past safely. The driver walked back to ascertain 'he cause, and the Boers thereupon poured in volleys, capturing the train.
Major Hook, with a handful of police defended Herschell residency against Fourie's 300 men, who had three killed and several wounded, and subsequently retired.
