VETERANS ASSOCIATION.

Wellington This Diy. Tho Governor presided this morning over a conference of various Veterans Associations of the colony held, to consider questions of forming a New Zealand Association of veterans, with Wellington as the centre. In his opening speech his Excellency said at one time it was thought that Auckland would be tho best place for the central body but he had found the business was not well managed there, and therefore thought 'here should be a central association with officers in sympathy with veterans. It was resolved that the title of tho Association should bo the ".Now Zealand Association of Hia M:i}.sfcy's Veterans," and that it be open to all members of the Imperial forc93 who have received Imperial decoration?, or who have completed ssvon year's sorvicc, also all members of the Colonial forces who wore in active service prior to 1872. Lord Ranfurly was elected President. The following Vice-presidents were nominated : —Capt. McKellar Wix (Wellington), Cummimder Eayther (Dunedin), Cipt. Wobsior (Now Plymouth), C. Dixon (Ma-iterfcon), P. D. Cummins (Wangauui), Major liiehardaou (Napier). General Secretary, S. Stidolph (Wellington), • Regret was expressed at the non-repre-3enoiuion of tho Auckland Association which wroto that was it not considered desirable at presont to bo consolidated with another body. At the Veterans' Association the following were elected, a standing committee to carry on the business during the recess .-—Commander Home, LieutColonel Nowall, Capt M'Kellar Wix. The following general committee was also appointed : —Wellington Commander Home, Lieut-Col. jNewall; Hawkc's Bay —MajorsGascoyne and Garner; Dunedin —Col Morris and Lieut O'Callaghan ; New Plymouth—Capt. A. Standish, tlamerton ; Mastorton Capt. Hewitt, and P. Cullcm ; Wanganui- -Capt Prcece and J. V. Day. At the conclusion of the meeting the delegates went to Government House and laid the rules before the Governor. His Excellency, as President of the Association, approved of the rules with a few alterations. I
