An Imperial edict reforming the system of examinations and introducing western history, sciences, and industrial methods, has been issued. If tne edict is enforced it will be an indication of the Liberals’ control in the Chinese Court,
Australian Shipping Laws. Beceived this day at 9 5 a. m. London, Sept 10. The Australian shipowners have written to Chamberlain asking him to cause an exemption of ocean born trade from the operation of the Commonwealth Interstate Bill, which they declare is most injurious to the interests of shipowners, and the trade generally of the Britain colonies. The powers proposed to be conferred by the Bill are capable of being employed so as to destroy all freedom of contract in ocean born traffic.
