ROMAN CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

(per press association.)

Auckland, Sept. 5. The Chief-Inspector wrote to the Education Board stating that in the majority of the Roman Catholic schools examined by the Inspectors, very little work is done in some ’of the class subjects included in the public school course. This is especially true of science and history. The Inspector suggest? that the board should point out to the managers of the Roman Catholic schools that in future years the Inspectors will not be able to grant passes in these standards, or indeed in any standard, unless the course of instruction in each of the class subjects conforms to the programme set forth in the public school syllabus.

. Mr Larabe said that this was a most important matter. The report showed that the children in Eoman Catholic schools wore not receiving the instruction that children in primary schools were. It was decided to send a copy of the Chief-Inspector’s letter to the managers of the Eoman Catholic schools.
