GREY COUNTY COUNCIL.
,: V Monday, September 2nd. The ordinary meeting of the Grey County Council was commenced yesterday afternoon. Present: —Messrs. Larkin, Ryall, Marshall, Harris, Hargreaves, Hannan, M.‘Onr!hy and Flynn, in the absence of Mr. M'Keehnie,, Mr. Hargreaves was voted to the chair. Mr. Marshall said he desired to have placed on the minutes the regret of the Council at the demise of the late James Kerr, and that a letter of condolence be sent to his widow. Qr. Larkin seconded the motion. Crs. Byall, Hargreaves, M'Carthy and Flynn also spoke of the deceased. Mr. Phillips said that Mr. M'Kechnie desired of him to express regret. The resolution was then carried. Prom the Auditor and Controller - General, certifying the County balancesheet. and' asking for printed copies,— Received. The Council’s share of £9 9s towards the address to the Duke and Duchess of York was passed forjpayment. The Council’s share towards the Contingent reception was £3l. The amount was passed for payment Cr. Hannan tnought that the attention of the Borough Council ought to bo drawn to the fact that the amount promised by the Council was only £ls, * whereas it now came to £2l odd. From T.. O’Donnell, in regard to a drain through his section at Cobden, complaining that it had been pulled up, thereby causing hi-t place to be Hooded. Referred to the Engineer. , Prom T. S. Taylor and M. Bundle, in regard to insuring County employees, ' V-..'' . .
Cr Hannan moved that the Clerk, Cr M'Carthy and the mover wait on Mr Bundle in regard to terms. Carried.
From J. Habhard asking the rates to be remitted. Rates remitted.
From James White offering his services as an Inspector of Vehicles, Referred to'the Finance Committee.
From Goard and Scrimshaw asking the Council to extend their permits in regard to a water race and dam. Granted.
From M. Fox stating that the flood had washed a part of the road away at Haupiri. Referred to the Engineer to deal with.
From J. Delaney enclosing letter from Mr Crombie in regard to making the station yard at the Twelve Mile larger ; and stating that the Department could do so without the permission of the Council. Referred to the Road Overseer.
From B, Gough re with of tyres on County roads. Referred to the Finance Committee.
Prom W. Harris asking payment of money due on contract at Cape Terrace. Referred to the Engineer. From Westport Chamber of Commerce in regard to the construction of the Westport and Reefton Railway, asking assistance of Council. Received.
From Sir J. G. Ward thanking Council for congratulations on being raised to the knighthood.
From H. Pollen asking particulars in regard to the salaries of its officials. Received. The Council adjourned till 9 30 this morning. THIS DAT, The Council resumed its sittings at 10 o’clock. It was decided to appoint Mr. James White inspector of vehicles, etc., vice Mr. B. Gough. There was no tender for the ParoaTeremakau road. It was decided to expend £65, balance of Government vote, on repairs to the road.
Cr. Hargreaves moved that Crs. Marshall and M'Carthy and the Clerk wait on the manager of the National Bank and arrange for an overdraft.—Carried. The Council then adjourned till 11 30 a.m.
