BOYS’ GYMNASTIC BRIGADE.

The Boys’ Gymnastic Brigade held aa opening practice at the Grey School gym* nasium last evening to which a large number of their friends had been invited*, The gymnasium had been tastefully decorated with dags and is now replete with all the paraphenalia necessary for physical exercises. The room badly needs flooring otherwise its arrangements are admirable* About 80 lads were present and made a very creditable appearance in their new flannel uniform. Messrs Wise and Dixon put them through a course of physical drill and calisthenics including swinging ropes, rings, dumb-bells, horizontal bar, jumping and tug-of-war. That the boys have profited by the instruction they have re* oeived was apparent to all, and Mr Wise and his assistant where highly complimented on the marked improvement in the exercises and the muscular develop* meht and activity of the, lads. The pro* ceedings were enlivened and diverted by the antics of the Company’s clown who is a remarkably active youth named “Snowy* A liberal supply of refreshments contributed by Mrs Wainwright and her staff were handed round and fully appreciated by all present particularly the lads, who tendered their best thanks to the ladies for their kindness in this respect, and so ended a very enjoyable performance.
