Troops for South Africa.
Sydney, Aug. 21. New South Wales supplied about 200 of the Brittanies troops. The balance are from other colonies, Sunday Lajbor. The Assembly adopted a resolution favoring the payment of extra for Sunday labor to State employees. Members generally favor reducing Sunday work as much as possible. The opinion is that the resolution will have that effect. Bain and Flood. Sydney, August 21. Heavy rain continues with strong southerly seas delaying shipping. Some low-lying districts are flooded. Yictorian Parliament. Melbourne, August 21. In the House of Representatives the State Assembly Convention Bill was read a second time by a majority of four amidst considerable excitement. In the House, Barton stated that in the communication the Imperial Government intimated they would control New Guinea. Jo'the Eioardo case Captain Douse gave evidence that he heard Chauvel urging Ricardo to obey the order to advance. The latter replied “No fear, we’re safe here.” Others gave evidence that at the Vet River, Ricardo when ordered to advance, replied that “I am quite willing to do so, but it will be Colonel Pilcher’s fault if I get killed.”
