[our parliamentary reporter]

Legislative Council. Wellington, This Day. The Legislative Council will probably adjourn for a fortnight from Thursday as there will be no business before it during the currency of the Financial Debate. The Financial Debate. Probabilities are that the Financial debate will occupy a fortnight and some Ministerial supporters, particularly those representing town constituencies, are expected to speak strongly regarding a bid made for country support. The estimates are likely to bo keenly criticised, and the points of attack will be all round increases to heads of departments, while statement preaches necessity economy throughout, and the grant £2250 to reimburse the Governor for the expenses connected with the Royal visit, this being deemed an unreasonable figure in view of the increase voted to His Excellency’s salary last year. Forenoon Sittings. When the local Government Bills Committee met this morning a protest was read from Hogg against Monday's sittings. This was followed up by Capt. Russell who moved that the Committee immediately adjourn, and that the Chairman bo instructed not to convene committees in future on days when the House is not sitting. After a heated discussion in the course of which the Premier made a strong plea for Monday sittings in order to expediato the passage bills, the motion was carried fay 16 to 7, and the committee adjourned. The Committee will bo summoned for Wednesday.
