Supreme Court Sittings.
Wellington. August 16. At the Supreme Court John Oalder and William Kennedy were charged with assault and robbery. The latter was acquitted. Oalder was found guilty of assault only and admitted to probation for six months, Wellington-Manawatu Railway. Negotiations have been resumed between the Government and WellingtonManawatu railway company for the latter’s line. Trade with South Africa. Mr Gow, New Zealand Government -Trade Commission leaves the Colony tomorrow by the Westralia for Sydney. He will leave there by the first boat for South Africa, making his way thence to London and the Continent. Importation of big Game. Dunedin, August 16. The acclimation Society decided to vots £IOO towards the cost of a proposal that the Government should import big game and recommended wapiti and chamois as most suitable. * It was reported that not one head of a pheasant introduced recently in Toko mariro district could be seen, their destruction being put down to stoats and weasels. Arbitration Court. The Arbitration Court only got through two witnesses in the Kaitangata case today. The President said the proceedings must be shortened as otherwise the case would extend over ten days and he had no idea of giving that time to it.
