In the Chamber of Deputies M. Pelletau the Radical Socialist, member for Bouohes Durhone, declared that the armoured cruisers Jeanne Dare and the first-class cruiser Chateau Roneault were disastrous failures. The boiler tubes became red hot, the machinery melted and both are disabled.
Turbine Steamers for The Atlantic
Trade. London, August 15. A bill authorising the construction of a pier at Berehaven for the purpose of accommodating steamers traversing the Atlantic in days, read a second time in the House of Lords after passing in the House of Commons, created a commotion in Liverpool. The step is regarded as foreshadowing turbine steamers run by foreigners, although it was stated in the Lords that vessels were building in Britain.

Austria semio officially announces that she will not accept Albania as a gift. The announcement terminates a violent newspaper agitation, arising out of Italian fears of Austrian aggression. Crispi’s Funeral. Crispi was accorded a National funeral. It was a splendid spectacle evoking Garibaldian and later memories. The Kaiser was represented. Bulow sent a letter to the widow in which he recognised her glorious husband as an eminent statesman and self-sacrificing patriot. Pabis, August 16. French newspapers rejoiced at Crispi’s death, describing him as an unscrupulous adventurer.
